Principal's Message

Valley Center Primary School, a TK-2nd grade school, continues to focus on early childhood development and strong academic achievement.  Valley Center Primary School is a high-performing school whose staff is dedicated to ensuring our children develop a love of learning through reading, writing, numeracy, collaborating, and communicating.  It is important that our students are nurtured, supported and ready to learn, and it is just as important that our staff and community focus on the safety and security of our children at all times.

STEM or Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics lessons are integrated throughout the school year, including model experiences our children will have later in life.  Also, equitable access to current technology by students and staff is a priority at our school. As we develop our students to be  college and career ready in the 21st Century, ALL students need daily instruction and opportunities to utilize technology that extends their learning even in the early grades and to have GRIT and perseverance when faced with adversity and challenging tasks.

Students showing compassion for one another is a hallmark for our culture of kindness. We also work on creating a culture of kindness where students show compassion for one another.  Our students here at the Primary School engage in a number of character building activities throughout the year.  Students participate in schoolwide activities and digital citizenship lessons each month coordinated by our shared school counselor and implemented by teaching staff.  Be sure to come see our two new Buddy Benches where students and can sit and make new friends.

Physical education continues to be a priority and we ensure, in addition to daily opportunities for play, teachers implement standards-based physical education lessons that incorporate songs and rhymes with movement.  In addition to physical exercise, students work on social skills, such as taking turns, cheering for fellow students, trying new tasks, practicing manners and good sportsmanship.

In addition to our physical education programs, our students participate in a number of activities that promote healthy living and connect to the community.

  • The Primary School’s Bee Buzzathon is an annual event that students look forward to every year. Students run laps and participate in other healthy activities.
  • Grandparent’s Day when celebrating all the contributions of our grandmas and grandpas
  • Read, Read, Read Day when we celebrate the love of reading and Dr. Seuss’s Birthday
  • Art Night and Science Night - a chance for families to see how artistic Primary School students can be and engage in science experiments and begin to think about future careers

As members of this community, this staff is committed to both academic and social success.  We all believe in building a strong partnership with parents/guardians and families.  We encourage our families to join our active Teacher Parent Club (TPC) and attend their many functions.  For more questions and information about TPC please visit their TPC website.

Additionally, I encourage you to visit our Valley Center Primary School’s webpage and view a video about our wonderful school in the center of the home page under the title Curriculum Report January 2019 Primary School.
